He will at once report any neglect of duty on the part of my

postman or clerk at any Branch office to the Postmaster-

-General.

He will inspect the postmen's quarters (wherever situated) not

less than twice weekly either by day or by night and see

that they are kept clean.

He will check the postmen's attendance bocks in the General

Post office and branches and entisfy himself by personal

tests that they are correctly entered up.

He will occasionally visit the postmen's school and ascertain whether the Attendance Book is properly kept or not.

He will see that all the available postmen are ready with the

mail cart at Blake Pier to receive all contract and

Siberian Lails and that all postmen to deal with large

inward and outward mails.

He will accompany the launch officer from time to time to see

that there is no delay in landing or taking off mails.

He will inspect the launch twice in each month and report on

its condition.

He will inspect letter boxes on the ships and launches in the

harbour at frequent intervals and ascertain that only

consignees covers and ships papers are forwarded un-

-stamped.

He will be responsible for the regulation of the duties of the

office detective and will take him on board my steamers

or launches whose letter boxes he wishes to inspect. The

detective will also assist him in his investigation when

called upon to do so.

He will investigate all complaints (against the postmen) of

negligence or dishonesty and report the result of his

enquiries to the Postmaster-General.

He will in conjunction with the Superintendent concerned

investigate all complaints involving dishonesty on the

epet
